how to become an AHA instructor

How to Become an AHA CPR Instructor

We’ve broken down the process for you below, in 5 easy steps, on how to become an AHA CPR Instructor. We’ve trained thousands of instructors and have simplified the process as best we can and because of this, our instructors have a 100% pass rate!

  1. You must have a current AHA Provider certification for the course you want to be an instructor in. Want to become an AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor? You must have a current (not expired) American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification to register for the AHA instructor course. Certifications from any other organizations (such as Red Cross, ASHI, ProCPR, etc) are not accepted. We highly recommend taking your AHA BLS Provider course at our office in Longwood/Lake Mary, FL if you don’t have a current AHA certification or it expires within the next six (6) months. This will ensure you are 100% prepared for your instructor class and make the process a lot easier.

2. Check our AHA instructor course registration page to find a date that works with your schedule. If you don’t see a date available, you can contact us with additional dates you’re available and we may be able to add a course date for you. Our schedule is typically made about a month to a month and a half out, so you would need to provide plenty of notice if you need a date not currently on our schedule and we will do our best to accommodate you!

3. Once you submit your request, a member of our Training Center will reach out via email to confirm your information and provide more information about the next steps. Please do not submit this request unless you are ready to schedule and pay for your instructor course. Your instructor course registration includes the online AHA Instructor Essentials course, AHA Instructor Manual and AHA course videos (which are all mandatory for each instructor to have per AHA).

4. After you’re officially registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details about your instructor course and how to prepare. You’ll also complete your AHA Instructor Essentials course online at home to prepare you for class before you come in to our office to complete the in-person portion of your instructor class.

5. After your in-person instructor course, you’ll come back to our office (within 6 months) to complete your monitoring session where you’ll get to practice teaching a portion of one of our live classes, paired with one of our experienced instructors. This allows you to see the whole process of conducting a class from start to finish. We typically offer classes 3-4x/week so there are plenty of opportunities to complete this as quickly as you need! After your monitoring session, we’ll issue your instructor certification before you leave our office and you are able teach on your own!
